Touch it, feel it, know it, before you buy it. A new player in the Digital Camera retail business allows customers closer to the merchandise than ever before. (By Aparna Umaparvathi)

You've all experienced the frustration that comes with taking bad photographs. Click and wait; it's too dark. Try again. Oh, now it's too bright. By now the smiles are sliding off your friends' or relatives' faces and the moment you wished to capture is lost. And when you find yourself trying to capture a rare moment, it never works out. It's always either too blurry, too bright, too dark, too far or too close!

The store sales staff noticed these troubles among the customers at pixetra shops in Cochin and Bangalore and quickly reported them to general manager of sales, Neelakantan Kushal. Neelakantan then framed an easy-to-follow 4 step plan to bring about user awareness for his products and everything related to photography.

Initially, when a customer buys a camera from pixetra, he or she is guided through the basic features of the camera and how to use them efficiently. Secondly, if that is not enough for the customer, he or she may join the Pixetra Club- an outlet for amateur photographers interested in taking their knowledge of photography to the next level. The club meets regularly in Cochin and Bangalore and members discuss tips and tricks they have picked up, along with organizing photo-outings such as trekking trips. Next, Pixetra Club also arranges classes and lectures by professional photographers - these are short, intense seminars or workshops and members learn simple tactics to take better photos.

The fourth stage of knowledge sharing at pixetra is conducted online at www.pixetra.com/club. This portal will soon connect members to discussion forums where members can post photography-related questions and find answers, advice on equipment, photo-blog, and comment on other members' photos on the photo-critic forum intended to help improve a photographer's technique.
